Critique : “It is still beauty before brains” by Chok Suat Ling

The article “It is still beauty before brains” by Chok Suat Ling is mainly about the unfair judging of women according to their looks but not their potential.
The idea provided by the writer is unclear as there is a lack of elaborations in a few of her points. There are examples or other issues that are not further elaborated by the writer. For example, the sentence “So, why do we need men again?” is not elaborated at all. The writer failed to explain and relate men and the judging of women by appearance. It is not stated that only men will judge women by their looks or is it that both men and women judge women by their physical appearance.
Moreover, the writer is vey biased toward the female. In the text, the writer only focuses on the problem where women are judged by their looks but men are not. But, the writer did not provide or discuss any evidence to support her statement and it is only her opinion that females are being judged by their looks.
Overall, the writer is elaborating about how women are being judged by their looks and how that is unfair. The author is found to be bias towards the female and some of her statements are not elaborated enough.

  1. I do agree that the writer is biased toward the females where she is only concerned about how women are judged but she failed to explain others' point of view in this matter. I, personally feel that she generalize all men to be in the same boat in judging women by their looks. An example of it is, “So, why do we need men again?”. Her vocabulary is very wide but mostly she uses simple words which can be understood by the public. However, some scientific words such as corpus callosum and electrophoresis can be misunderstood by the public and this leads to ambiguity in her sentences. Overall, she succeeded in presenting her point of view in how women are judged but I feel that she should be more open-minded and provide more reliable evidences.

    1. Vinodhinii , i am agree with u. Since that writer categorized the mankind in this world into two type only - male and female. She portraits that all men are judging the female based on their beauty although it does not happen in the real world. It does happen but not all men is such a jerk. However, this mistake is still acceptable since it is not the main focus about this topic. However, when the writer come to the women, she illustrates that all the women are being the victim of this scenario. However, she did not mention which type of women are the real victim of this issue since not all the women affected in this issue. Some of the women even get benefit from this perspective. Besides ,she did not mention how bad the women are being judged just based on their appearance and why is it urgent to solve this problem. Lastly, i think the main problem of this article is that the writer did not touch on what are the effect of this scenario to the women, to the opposite gender and to the society and even to the development of the nation which i think it is the most important part in the article. The article won't increase the awareness of the public if she did not illustrate how serious the issue is.

    2. I'd like to see the writer's face expression when she reads this blog. She has a long way to go for her writing career.
